ISO PrizeThe International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has launched a new initiative.

The ISO Prize will recognise an individual who has made a ‘significant contribution’ in adhering to the ISO standards. The winner of the prize will be rewarded with 20,000 Swiss Francs that they will be expected to use to fund a project or research.

Talking about the prize, ISO Secretary-General Rob Steele, told iso.org: “There are many standards ambassadors in business, government and academia, people, or rather leaders, who realise the benefits of the ISO standards and work hard to encourage their use. With this prize and money, we would like to recognise these efforts and encourage future projects.”

Mr Steele also said that the prize was ‘unique’ as it was reaching outside the organisation’s usual community.

He added: “Our existing awards target experts from our committees or members. This time, we want to take it farther. In particular we would like to encourage younger individuals, ideally no older than 45 years old, who are speaking and breathing standards.”

ISO is a worldwide federation that promotes the development of international manufacturing, trade and communication standards over 91 countries, according to smacna.org. Firms can then use these standards in their internal auditing procedures.

Those who apply for the prize must be available to travel to St. Petersburg between 16th-20th September, however the costs will be covered by ISO.
