The ISO/TC 207 technical committee have today approved the publication of the latest revision of ISO 14001(2015) Environmental management systems – Requirements with guidance for use. All 88 member countries that voted on the final draft voted in favour of publication.
What are the main changes?
- Top management now have to take a direct role in the management system rather than delegating responsilibity
- Greater focus on risk management
- Fewer prescriptive clauses/requirements
- Greater emphasis on communication and awareness (both internally and externally)
With the new standard now published organisations of all shapes and sizes will find it easier to integrate with other management systems thanks to the adoption of Annex SL
