About you

My job title is Quality Engineer at Fractory Ltd., and I have been in this role for 6 months.

A key aspect of my responsibilities involves internal and supplier auditing. This includes the complete audit lifecycle, from planning and performing audits to ensuring the effective closure of any identified non-conformities. I am responsible for assessing compliance with quality standards and identifying areas for process improvement within both our internal operations and our supplier network.

About your company

Fractory Ltd. was founded in 2017 with around 50 employees across offices in Tallinn, Tartu & Manchester.

We are an online manufacturing platform that streamlines the process of metal fabrication. It connects engineers and businesses with metalwork production teams, offering services like laser cutting, CNC machining, and metal bending. Providing instant online quotes and managing the entire production process from quotation to delivery.

Essentially the company utilises technology to make metal working production more efficient, by connecting customers to a wide network of vetted suppliers.

About auditing

Our organisation holds ISO 9001 but our supply chain has various management systems that includes AS9100, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and more. Currently, we have a team of just 3 auditors.

Due to the nature of our business – it can be challenging auditing some smaller suppliers especially if their team is small. Risk based approach certainly helps plan certainly helps plan the audit criteria more effectively.

About the auditor course

I attended an AS9100:2016 Rev D Lead Auditor course with Batalas.  I needed the training as I wanted more confidence when planning and performing audits. Aerospace is highly regulated so it is great to have training in such a field.

Batalas communicated very well throughout. The course was very well organised and the content was concise and easy to follow.

About auditing after the training

Since the course, I am yet to perform an audit – I have however updated the audit schedule and tweaked the audit templates we have.

Learning is great but it needs to be put into practise as much as possible before it’s embedded.

About your auditing career

I want to continue to grow my confidence and knowledge in Quality for Aerospace and Medical.

I plan to develop my skills in risk management, continual improvement project management and human factors/human performance.  I’d also like to improve data analysis skills.

About advice to new auditors

Don’t be afraid to put your own stamp on things – we are simply checking for conformance against the standards. Collect objective evidence that is factual and build reports that are concise.

How has Batalas helped other businesses and individuals?
