The SAE AS9100D Aerospace and Defense standard defines the requirements for planning and conducting audits within AS9xxx. It also helps to define the content and make-up of audit reporting and prcoess effectiveness to the AS9100 series of standards.

It has recently been updates so that there is more focus on effectiveness and not just conformity. It also states that

Every process should be audited to determine:

• Is the process identified and appropriately defined?
• Are responsibilities defined?
• Are procedures implemented and maintained?
• Is the process achieving effective results?

New Terms with related forms in the appendices

• Containment
• OASIS
• Major Nonconformity
• Minor Nonconformity
• Nonconformity Report (NCR)
• Objective Evidence Record (OER)
• Process Effectiveness Assessment Report (PEAR)

These changes have been implemented to align the standard with the updates to AS9100 Rev C (2009), and the new requirements of ISO 17021.
